Livingston County boasts a largely agricultural economy thanks to its rich and fertile land. It is located in the Finger Lakes region of western New York, south of Rochester and east of Buffalo. The county produces large quantities of wheat, potatoes, and dairy products. The area has also been a major source of salt mining for more than 100 years.
Never pay a speeding ticket in Livingston County. The fines and points are often far greater than most expect. Instead, it would be wiser to hire an attorney who can fight the underlying charge and reduce or eliminate such consequences.
A speeding ticket in New York State typically starts at between $150 to $600. But this is just the fine; New York State also adds a mandatory surcharge of $88 or $93 on each ticket. Whenever the ticket brings a driver’s point total to 6 or more, he/she will also have to pay a DMV Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA) fee. DRAs start at $300. Each point over 6 adds another $75. Worse, even a single speeding ticket can raise auto insurance rates, often by hundreds of dollars per year for several years.
In 2018, drivers received just short of 4,500 speeding tickets in Livingston County. Speeding tickets made up about a quarter of all traffic tickets issued in the county last year. Friday and Sunday were the most common days for drivers to get ticketed. Speeding tickets were most often issued in August (12.7%) and May (10.5%), followed by the months in between (9.1% in June and 9.5% in July).
Drivers charged with speeding in Livingston County should fight the charge(s) against them. In New York State, only about 7.8% of drivers get their ticket dismissed. However, with the help of a skilled attorney, one has a high chance of either winning a dismissal or negotiating a reduction in fines and points.

Livingston County’s Letchworth State Park is often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of the East,” which spans 14 thousand acres along the Genesee River. It is a major source of tourism in the county. Drivers can take I-390 north and south through the county, connecting the area to Rochester or to I-99 near the NY-Pennsylvania border. U.S. Route 20 and U.S. Route 20A move east-west through Livingston. Students attending SUNY Geneseo and Genesee Community College often traverse the roads, giving police much to watch for.
Drivers looking to avoid the heavy fines, points, and insurance hikes associated with a speeding ticket must plead not guilty and fight the charge. An experienced traffic ticket attorney can negotiate with prosecutors to reduce the ticket to a lesser offense with a lower fine and fewer or no points. Another good reason to hire an attorney is to avoid going to court—a qualified attorney can appear in lieu of the driver in most speeding cases.
