With a population of 230,163, Saratoga County is the fastest growing county in Upstate NY. It is considered part of the Capital District metro area around the city of Albany. Saratoga County speeding tickets can be very expensive. A typical fine can cost between $150 to $600, sometimes more. In addition, drivers are required to pay a NYS surcharge of $88 or $93. There’s also a possible DMV Driver Responsibility Assessment (DRA) fee, which applies whenever a driver reaches 6 or more points on his/her license (Note: A single speeding ticket for going 21 mph over the limit is worth 6 points alone). A DRA costs $300 plus $75 for each point over 6. Drivers can also expect their auto insurance rates to go up by several hundred dollars per year after paying a speeding ticket.

In 2022, the number of speeding tickets issued in Saratoga totalled 9,695. Similar to the statewide pattern, most of those who received speeding tickets were men, accounting for 64.3% of the total. Law enforcement officers were particularly vigilant in issuing tickets during August (985 tickets) and October (918 tickets).

The most common speeding violation cited was § 1180-d Speed in Zone, with a total of 7,953 speeding tickets issued. This was followed by § 1180-b Speed Over 55 Zone with 844 tickets, then § 1180-a Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent.

As with the other counties, Saratoga law enforcement issued the most speeding tickets to New York state drivers (7,109 tickets). Drivers from the Northeast region of New York received 1,733 speeding tickets, while those from other U.S. states received 468. Canadian drivers were issued 240 tickets, and drivers from other areas collectively received 94.

Out of all the individuals who were issued speeding tickets in 2022, only 5% were successful in contesting the tickets in court.
